I am Cliff Barnes, an enthusiastic American artist who loves to capture natural scenery with my oil and watercolor painting. Six months after my marriage with Betty, we decided to buy a VW Camper in Germany and camped in Europe for a year.
In Spain, I bought oil paints and canvases and began painting the people, fishing villages, and the Alps witnessing the amazing differences in each country. After I finished my art, we rolled those canvases and brought them back to the U.S., starting a new career as a full-time artist.
The skills that I learned in advertising as a graduate of Art Center College of Design have set my path forward selling my art in galleries and art competitions in Arizona, California, Colorado, Utah. I was even advertised in a Switzerland Newspaper.
I have always been amazed by our American West. My wife and I traveled to Indian reservations and ceremonials, rodeos, and ghost towns with this passion. For over 20 years, I focused on painting the American people, scenes, and wildlife of our West of Today.
I was elected President of the American and Indian Cowboy Artists and had a one-person show at the San Bernardino County Museum. I was commissioned to paint two 10-foot by 8-foot oil paintings for the County of San Bernardino, which hang today in the rotunda of their County Government Building.
It is an honor to have been awarded the "Oil Painters of America (OPA) "Signature Membership", and to have had my art juried in their competitions throughout the U.S. In 2012 I received an Animal Award for "The Team" at their Exhibition in Colorado. In 2018 the American Impressionists Society (AIS) selected my 9 x 12 oil painting, "Morning Sun" for their Small Works Exhibition in Cincinnati, Ohio. In 2019, I received the Publishers Award for my "Mother's Pride"oil painting at the National Exhibition of the American Plains Artists (APA) in Corsicana, Texas.
We are looking forward to the OPA, APA, and AIS Shows coming up in 2021!
